Slayer

A weekend getaway becomes a death sentence when seven friends, already torn apart by secrets, must fight a serial killer who hunts them outside, unaware a potential victim is silently struggling to escape his own prison inside a nearby barn.

Slayer trains the early-career producers of the PUNC program to the processes and industry environment of one of the most enduring feature film genres: horror. Slayer is a full feature-length production where PUNC participants work hands-on rotation, and are involved in the peculiar production aspects of this relevant genre - from preproduction through marketing. As in all PUNC-affiliated productions, they perform the actual function assigned to them on the production. They are learning on-the-job in a situation where they are relied upon to do their best, and where what they do will impact the success of the production. They are not alone though: they are overseen and mentored every step of the way by professional producers from the Independent Producers Guild.

PUNC is a career development and skills development program. PUNC identifies talented early-career filmmakers who, given the right training and opportunities, can change the world with their vision. PUNC philosophy is that there is no better way to learn a skill than to do it in-process, in an environment where you are actually being relied upon and trusted to do your best work.

Slayer is a genre-specific project, with original production and story elements. It demonstrates how filmmakers can adhere to convention - and thus hit their marketing targets - while still finding unique and creative expression within that convention. These important skills are required in an increasingly sophisticated media environment.

In partnership with the producers of the show, Slayer is staffed in part with PUNC program participants. Production supervision is provided by Diamond Shadow Productions. Vital elements of the production, including in-scene and behind-the-scenes support are provided by visionary corporate sponsors and people like you.

Slayer will be streamed globally for free through SSI’s Virtual Theatrical program, which itself is made possible with the generous assistance of the FilmPod platform and Digital Box Office. Through the Virtual Theatrical program, SSI brings new, important ideas and artistic expressions to a world-wide audience. It advances the cultural landscape and encourages new ideas.
